Job Summary
As a Mechanical Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to optimize the maintenance and repair activities on all plants and equipment within your assigned area. This role aims to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the equipment, as assigned by the Mechanical Manager.
Context / Objectives
- The work environment for this job is the Cement Plant and the Quarry.
- It is considered a job with a medium safety risk.
Purpose
- Ensure the reliability of plant operations by maintaining the quality of Mechanical Maintenance on all plants and equipment within your area of responsibility.
- Ensure the safety of the equipment and personnel working with you.
- Motivate and train your team to maintain a high-quality level of work.
- Prepare necessary maintenance reports as directed by the Mechanical Manager.
- Make timely recommendations regarding tool needs and spares specifications for purchase, and confirm their arrival at the warehouse.
- Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of your subordinates.
- Supervise all maintenance and inspection work on plants in your section to sustainably reduce maintenance costs.
- Adhere to the annual maintenance budget.
- Take prompt and appropriate action when mechanical incidents occur.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare maintenance programs and organize/supervise maintenance work on all plants and equipment, including their auxiliaries.
- Provide daily and monthly maintenance reports for plants and equipment within your section.
- Implement mechanical procedures according to the company’s standards.
- Ensure compliance with WAPCO quality, safety, health, and environmental policies within your area of responsibility.
- Schedule, plan, and execute works (including resource allocation).
- Manage your team by defining tasks and objectives, conducting annual performance reviews, ensuring quality work, maintaining good working relationships, and motivating team members while enforcing discipline.
- Implement training plans to improve personnel skills.
- Contribute to the preparation and adherence to the departmental budget.
- Facilitate communication and maintain relationships by attending departmental meetings, plant/departmental safety meetings, conveying management policies/decisions to subordinates, and providing feedback to the Mechanical Manager.
- Keep updated on general cement plant and engineering practices.
- Comply with EMS Mechanical Instrumentation job functions.
- Involvement in the implementation and maintenance of the integrated management system at the plant.
Profile Required
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education, with at least 1 year of experience, preferably in the cement industry.
- Knowledge of engineering codes and standards.
- Familiarity with safety rules related to maintenance of Dust Control Equipment and Utilities.
- Hands-on experience.
- Proficient in using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, AutoCAD, etc.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- In-depth knowledge of practical mechanical operations and applications.
- Good understanding of cement manufacturing processes and products.
- Experience in predictive and preventive maintenance.
- Familiarity with quality and environmental management systems, such as ISO 9001:2000, EMS – ISO 14001.
