Youth Worker Job Description and Qualifications
Job Title: Youth Worker
Location: Markham, Ontario
Shift: Morning, Night, Overnight
Wage: $20.00 per hour
Duties will include :
Provides ongoing life skills support, and mentoring and provides access to direct services to address issues youth presently face (E.g. employment, family issues, life skills, shelter, hot meals, counseling, recreational activities, and clothing).
Responsibilities of a Youth Worker:
- Medication administration, monitoring, storage, and disposal (as required).
- Provides informal one-on-one counseling to the youth in the program.
- Advocates on the youth’s behalf and acts as a positive role model for youth.
- In the event of a crisis or critical incident, manages the situation to ensure the safety of all and immediately reports to the appropriate level.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Post-Secondary degree / diploma in a Child / youth-related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
- Minimum of three years experience working with at-risk or street-involved youth.
- Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Suicide Prevention training, and assets.
- Current First Aid / CPR certification.
- Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
