How FG Plans to Distribute N8000 to 12 Million Nigerians

President Tinubu recently addressed the House of Representatives regarding the disbursement of N8000 to 12 million families over a period of six months. This initiative aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by Nigerians due to subsidy removal. In response, the President has agreed that each state should develop a cash transfer program based on their respective social register.

During a meeting on July 20, 2023, at the State House in Abuja, it was decided that cash transfers would be facilitated using state social registers. This implies that the previous register utilized by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs during the Buhari Administration may be abandoned.

One of the primary reasons behind this decision is the recognition that each state has its own unique characteristics and specific needs. President Tinubu emphasized that this initiative aims to support impoverished and vulnerable Nigerians in meeting their basic requirements.

It is important to note that the cash transfer program is distinct from other national social intervention programs such as NSIP, Npower, GEEP, and NHGSFP. These programs are likely to continue operating under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
